since everyone is bloggin bout prom, ha i shall too!
presenting: yewliang's prom post!
aha. pple from sji and a few other informative pple would obviously catch the catch in the phase above. because sji does not have any prom! or graduation dinner for that matter.
yes i repeat: no dinner.
well done sji. but then. why am i surprised? wait. im not surprised. why am i so used to this? always doing things to "stand out" from other schools. and somehow along the way managing to psycho the many josephians into having the mindset that its perfectly normal. hell you should hear the reasons for not having a dinner:
1) too expensive. seriously - i heard this. c'mon who are you joking? i think even neville longbottom(dumbest boy in the history of hogwarts) will snigger at such a joke. okay not to say the school's really rich but you can't say sji's poor can you? when students pay $150 a month, you don't really expect the school to be poor.
2) sji students will turn the place upside down. OH PLZ. which sch isn't worried about that? and u know how they solve it? they have teachers attending the event. this obviously will have a self-control effect on students. personally this is an even dumber excuse than the first.
3) by having a dinner means having to get the students to pay and thus the poor students will be left out. wow showing some maturity here. but yet - c'mon which school doesn't face such a situation? most schools pay between the 40 - 80 dollar range, and im sure our school falls within that category too. aniwae hasn't the school always had a financial scheme to help the more needy pupils within the community? if they can supply school fees for 4 years, wads a graduation dinner to them?
alright alright yewliang so yer doing those sji posts again. so sue me? curse me? cast a spell on me?
aniwae wads so great about having a prom or dinner? isn't it just so overrated by everybody? its just one night out thats all...
WRONG
so so wrong. it marks a final chapter in a school and its importance has been proven by the very fact that i haven't seen a school not having one. (imagine the suaning you get from pple who find out that yer GREAT sch does not have one)
SJI pple(cries and wails): NO WAD! where got only our school! all those neighbourhood schools oso don't have prom wad...
obviously this school transcends itself in a world of its own. (and living in a world of independent schs are king and neighbourhood schs are losers mindset) for i haven't seen a neighbourhood school not holding a prom. okay i may be wrong. for obviously i don't have contacts with every single sch in sg. so there might be that one or two other sch that doesn't have a prom or dinner, but hey that onli constitutes a meagre 1 or 2 % of the entire schooling population in singapore! and if this makes that 1 or 2% really special, then i think the sky will fall and singapore will win the world cup.
okay i mean no malice to the sch. and im beginning to love it now. it only gets better eveyday.

downed with fever. blocked nose and sore throat too.
lol still went over to renny's house to celebrate his birthday... albeit having to feel like dying throughout the entire experience.
okay lar it wasn't that bad. just felt cold. and couldn't really eat. we went to a restaurant nearby which sold fabulous prata and nasi lemak (even recommended by taufik on some show)... and i ordered two pratas and they gave me three. how smart. wasted $1.50. now im angry...
had a little cake which was not bad actually. played xbox and i soon went to sleep. oh man i felt like a human oven - felt really toasted from head to toe - i think you could put an egg on my body and it would have cooked! by the nxt morning luckily my sickness died down. well at least i managed to skip training! muahaha...
why do you feel cold when you have a fever?

wierd outing today...
as usual i was late - and ended up having to endure cindy khoo's blaberring for more than half an hour...
so we met up wif august joel rae gwen in heeren... and then the nightmare begun.
you know how it feels accompanying three tai-tais-to-be for shopping in the heart of orchard road? oh man. u dun wanna know.
but before that we slacked at swensens for quite some time...
luckily august and joel were there to accompany me in the horror... haha but at least we redeemed ourselves by eating great chicken rice at bukit timah and pooling! wooo legally too...
Hermione Granger asks in the end, half an eye on Ron, "So, everything's going to change now, isn't it?"
somehow i thought that was the best part of the movie.

tired. lethargic. can't even move.
came back from class chalet in the afternoon and i still feel sleepy...
well it was rather okay lar... but one trip made the whole thing all worthwhile...
first day - met up with the rest of the guys and upon checking in... we immediately went to rent bikes! ahaha... quit cheap... 10 bucks for one entire day... but then the bikes weren't exactly in very good condition - but nevertheless - very worth...
so off we went cycling for about an hour and a little more? then went back to slacken around before bbq began... well i din go for it coz met up wif swl for bowling! ahaha the lanes were dry as if it were the sahara desert... seriously... so ended up bowling spinner... and having to owe one milo... haha lol...
talked for a while at the beach and tried to search for stars before heading back... then it was routine stuff again - cards, tv, ps2... lalala...
until about 2am? wahahaha that was when the fun started... okay so one group of us (13) decided to go cycling! and it turned out to be an expedition... so from east coast park - we cycled for 2 hrs all the way to changi village! that's at least 20 km... and it was relli tiring... butt ached... back ached... thighs ached... legs ached... it was really taking a toll and upon reaching changi village - it felt like heaven! haha ate ate ate drank drank and den most slept... haha while some of us went around exploring the interesting things that inhabit the area... wahahaha i think some of u might understand this...
lol so we set foot back at 5 and reached back at 7... tried to watch the sunrise but failed disastrously (where's the sun?)... so off it was to sleep.
and sleep it would be for me until it was 1pm... lol cards tv and stuff again before finally packing up to go home! phew tiring tiring tiring...
tomolo there's sch again!!! and den SAJC wants us to start training... wth... so early! but nvm... shldn't complain too much haha...

wooo! juz caught harry potter... yup free tix summore! hahaha but wif advertisements included... lol...
u know how it feels to watch a movie in a theatre wifout trailers at the start? yup rare feeling coz i think it hardly ever happens (unless the cinema screws up)... ahaha and i felt it just now! wah damn shiok... straightaway the warner brothers icon showed on the screen... wahahaha no trailers!
okay that was rather out of point... hmmm i went wif my swl partner... haha lol... and the film?
well...
to be honest - it was rather rushed... quiddich world cup was super rushed lar! they showed such an exciting way of them getting there then they showed such a magnificent stadium den straightaway jump to the ending liao... diao...
the yule ball oso quite errrr... a bit rushed? din even know that harry asked that indian gal to go to the ball... and din rmbr seeing hermoine and ron relli quarrel? den suddenly hermoine cried... zzzzz... that's so out of character lar - hermoine cry?
then dat stupid dumbledore was damn fierce... suddenly lyk sirius black and dumbledore changed souls... wierd....
but overall? well - firstly - it feels like everyone has grown up... now all know how to wear more revealing outfits? haha... hermoine lor and her gown... haha n then that fleur in her swimsuit... then harry having a nude scene? haha sooner or later this is gonna become an NC-16 show...
i guess the show mainly wanted to showcase the value of friendship... and the ending was also quite emotional i guess... very ironic ending - everyone was cheering when both of them returned... but then din realise that the cedric guy died... den when it was announced... woosh silence went over the crowd... really emotionally unbalanced and contrasting and that relli made the ending a credible one...
haha after that we went for a small supper - ate sum asparagus and i think we almost vommitted? okay lar a bit exaggerate... haha wah im becoming broke... spent quite a lot ytd n today... luckily had free tixs or it would have been worse... lol
sonny's staying over! wahaha and he still got papers on tuesday... lol wth... so guess wad we did? we went macs to study! hahaha yar but i read storybooks lor... not bad lar at least nvr play much! ahaha...
okay tired liao... sleep time! nites peeps...

oh man. i lurve this song.
珊瑚海 - 周杰伦/Lara
曲:周杰伦 词:方文山 编:钟兴民
(Jay) 海平面远方开始阴霾 悲伤要怎么平静纯白
我的脸上 始终挟带 一抹浅浅的无奈
(Lara)
(Jay) 毁坏的沙雕如何重来 有裂痕的爱怎么重盖
只是一切 结束太快 你说你无法释怀
(Lara)

The Shanghai Massacre occured in March 1927 after Chiang Kai Shek seized Shanghai at the end of the Northern Expedition. A general strike broke out, and authorities responded by sending out execution squads to kill suspected communists. Confusion was present everywhere and the CCP leaders, who had no real idea of the situation, forbade any resistance to the KMT. Thus thousands were killed and the First United Front collapsed.
that was almost 80 years ago.
time machine *vroom vroom*
(80 years later)
The Malcolm Road Massacre occured on 9 November 2005, just as 60 students were sitting for their history 2158 O Levels exam. Before 2.00pm, excitement and anxiety filled the air, as students made their last minute efforts to remember the contents in their history file. Their history teacher was on hand to provide a morale boost just before the paper commenced, and gave out sweets in a bid to soften the mood and cushion the blow that the students were soon to face.
At 2.00pm, at the sound of the gun, papers flipped and cries of wails filled the air. Students stared at blank amazement at the lack of questions to answer and continued flipping aimlessly, in the hope that a light would appear at the end of the tunnel.
But alas, things were not to be and students had no choice but to contend with reality and continue with the paper. At 4.30pm, as the nightmare was brought to a close, hoardes of screams were heard and it left one to wonder whether they were cheering for joy at the achievement of having accomplished a history paper, or letting out their anger and frustration that had been bottled up within them for two-and-a-half hours.
wonder why i'm all nagging about this. However it was just pure craziness. 100% A1? ha u must be in dreamland.
but i dunno why it pains so much. after putting in so much efforts throughout these two years on this subject, i'm sure the whole class feels the same. all the late nights and trading of notes and class tests and everything else. i dunno. it's been one hell of a subject and only those who have gone through it will know how crazy it feels. those times when we work so so so hard and all we aimed for was a C6 - and somehow we were happy with that.
that time when all of us sat for our first test - versailles and nobody pased. the TA1 results where nobody even got a D7. the screams when everyone passed prelims. wow. it's been hell of a roller coaster ride and one that has been truly memorable.
maybe we will be the batch that becomes infamous for not having that elusive 100% A1. but so wad? the dedication put into this subject will be unrivalled by any other, and for that matter it is truly applaudable and definitely deserved of somethinge even better than an A1.
so u see? the moral of the story is:
NEVER SPOT for an exam. Proven during SS, again during 2158. Spotting does the world no good - coz nothing expected ever comes out. Growth of Nations? nah. World War II? nah. Stalin? nah.
now lets complete the Os in style.

okay i know i'm not supposed to blog. but then i would be letting myself down if i did not blog about this.
i guess these words summarise it all:
crisis? what crisis?
yup. after suffering a massacre at the hands of middlesbrough and defeat at paris at the hands of lille, it was turning out to be a nightmare for sir alex and co.
after all, chelsea were next on the agenda and their league form had been nothing short of spectacular this season, with their only dropped points having come from a stalemate with everton.
captain keane also seemed to have turned in the towel against his own team, and launched a stirring attack against many of his teammates. thus with almost everything that could be thrown against the red devils thrown against them, it seemed almost improbable that they'd be able to pull off a miracle at old trafford.
but miracles do happen don't they?
and they could not have found an even more appropriate venue - the theatre of dreams. and dreams ever so willingly - they do come true.
miraculous? lucky? whatever you say. but manchester united, with the full support of the old trafford faithful, showed the world the class that they are in and pulled off something that no other team has done in the premiership this season - to beat chelsea fc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
well so much for a morale booster. everyone was high today in school after learning of man u's credible victory. lalala - but all came to nothing after sitting for the papers.
haha gawd. it wasn't easy. yar do-able but not easy though. SS too had that tinge of difficulty in it.
n all hail the SJI SS department! wooo! are they just shen or wad.
our sch spotted in this order:
venice, merger sepa, sustaining development, countries divided.
NO GROWTH OF NATIONS
before u actually see the paper, you'll be going like: "wtf? our sch mad ar? everi sch in sg spotting tt one n we nvr spot it."
but then. when you flipped open the paper,
NO GROWTH OF NATIONS!!!
whoa. stunned. dunno whether good or bad coz i think lotsa pple were affected. stunned.
quoted from roy keane:
"just because you are paid 120 000 pounds a week, and play for 20 minutes against tottenham, you think you are a superstar"
~~~~~~ hahahahaha super hilarious plz. but only bowling pple will understand this so nvm.
okay, today i had 3 pple calling me a pig.
coz i woke up at 1.30pm - for the second day in a row.
and it was no thanks to champions league football.
so ya. im gonna go ranting. u know the result.
man u 0 - 1 lille
if that doesn't make u sit up. nothing will. and all for the wrong reasons.
so prior to the match i was boasting to my cousin that man u are gonna thrash lille (who i had thought was a belgium side initially until she reminded me it was french)... and guess wad - yup u guessed it.
okay no excuses made. united simply weren't what their name suggested and lille truly deserved the win. yup no doubt lille were physical and should have been wrestling instead of playing scocer, but that's no excuse to a poor united performance which lacked the quality of a truly great team.
dah.
dun care.

Liverpool 3 - 0 Anderlecht
when was the last time you saw such a scoreline?
Chelsea 0 - 1 Real Betis
NOW WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW SUCH A SCORELINE!
(yup u guessed it... it was against liverpool tt showed a similar scoreline)
damn i'm proud and happy. personally of course man u's #1... but liverpool has always been my no. 2. and gawd im proud.
it was a class performance throughout by the champions of europe, and they allowed anderlecht no chance at all. 21 shots by the men in red to a meagre 4 shots by the visitors (of which only one was on target).
chelsea - with a russian billionaire as their bankroll and with the self-acclaimed "special one" in charge, they must have been shocked with such a scoreline. Just four days after Mourinhio proudly proclaimed Lampard to be the best player in the world, complacency has done justice and Chelsea have finally suffered their first defeat of the season. This comes on the back of a recent draw with bottom-of-the-table everton and a league cup loss to charlton. The blues are definitely feeling blue now and their invincible status is fading fast.
liverpool once again showed their class and proved that they are still kings of europe. Total domination would be the right word to describe the match as Liverpool ran riot throughout anfield. However Peter Crouch once again pulled in a dismal performance and was substituted by Cisse in the second half. One can only wonder how long stron Benitez's faith remains. There was clear chemistry between the midfielders - Garcia Gerrard Sissoko and Alonso, and they also combined well with full backs Risse and Finnan to create a splendid performance throughout. Morientes showed he's back to his peak form with a brilliant goal courtesy of a world class strike - one that would make his former club Real Madrid go green with envy.
Hence it is with hope that liverpool can bring this quality of football back to the premiership.
anyway i foudn this quite fun:

i feel like blogging today. as in yar. those yewliang blogs.
(which means u either run now or suffer from sore eyes later)
here goes nothing.
being a history student, you often wonder hear many stories about people saying "why you study history for?" and stuff like that.
many people seemingly think that the subject simply involves memorizing and nothing else. and its pure boring. and yada yada...
okay okay. so i often wondered too: "study history for wad ar?"
well i don't really remember where i read this, but it made quite a bit of sense.
we often study history to learn about the past, so that we can improve on the future. history isn't about memorizing facts, it is about understanding them. and thus learning from them.
and when we look in the past, we search for moments that define history. moments that change the course of the world. the industrial revolution, the two world wars and the collapse of the Berlin Wall are just to name a few.
One significant moment in time that change the course of the world started in 1955, and soon became known as the "US Civil Rights Movement".
On the 1st of December, 1955, a black lady living in Montgomery, Alabama refused to give up her seat on a bus when asked by a white man. She was eventually arrested for violating the city laws. This woman, Ms. Rosa Parks, eventually became known as the mother of the Civil Rights Movement.
When word of her arrestment reached members of the black community, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr led the town on a 382 day boycott of the local bus system. It became a huge success, and gave King national publicity.
After a few years of campaigning and further strikes and demonstrations culminated in The March on Washington in 1963. 200 000 people demonstrated in front of the Lincoln Memorial, and King made one of the most famous speeches ever in the history of mankind - "I have a dream..."
The Civil Rights Law was passed in 1964.
Of course, Martin Luther King Jr. went on to popular acclaim and worldwide fame for being the leader of the American Civil Rights Movement and also a receipiant of the nobel peace prize.
But all this would not have occured if not for the actions of Ms. Rosa Parks.
