SJI count on team spirit
THEY may not have any “stars” in their team, but St Joseph’s Institution Team 1
boast a spirit which has seen them lead the Singapore Tenpin Bowling Congress (STBC) Secondary Schools Bowling League Premier Division over the last three weeks.
“We have great team spirit. This is the key to our success,” said captain Wong Yew Liang.
“We are all good friends even outside of bowling and the team do not have any star bowlers.
“In some other teams, the stars will scold their teammates when they are bowling poorly, but we just encourage each other and try to cover for each other when mistakes are made.”
SJI Team 1 will need every bit of their spirit, if they intend to hold on to their lead.
Last Saturday at Cathay Bowl SAFRA, Tampines, Anglo Chinese School (I) Team 2 finished top in Game 5 of the second round of the Premier Division, to trim SJI Team 1’s overall lead to just
one point.
But Yew Liang is upbeat about his team’s chances of winning. Said the 15-year-old: “We are still leading the division by a single point. If we can maintain our performance and deal with the pressure, I think we can win the league.”
Game 6, round 2 of STBC’s Secondary Schools Bowling League 2004 resumes this Saturday, at Cathay Bowl SAFRA, Yishun.
